Nature Watching & Birding
St. Bernard's proximity to New Orleans, the Mississippi River flyway, and Louisiana's Coast make it a diverse, unique, and rewarding experience for both the seasoned naturalist and the interested amateur. The parish, situated along a 27 mile stretch of the Mississippi River, begins just 5 miles from the French Quarter and offers a unique balance of both urban and natural settings for nature watching. Nearly 75% of St. Bernard Parish is water with a variety of marshes, bayous, and inlets. St. Bernard is home to three stops on the America's WETLAND Birding Trail and the Mississippi River Birding Trail which are great places to begin your birding adventure.
